Variability of supply networks- Leveraging the supply chain resilience technology for success.

COVID-19 has disrupted operations on a large scale, making it difficult for manufacturers to determine the effects and to respond quickly. The manufacturing supply chain & logistics leaders have focused on addressing the immediate problems to keep the company as profitable as possible.

In our 22nd Inflection Manufacturing supply chain panel discussion we focused on “Variability of supply networks- Leveraging the supply chain resilience& technology for success.”

The Panel Discussion kick-started amongst Tapaswi PVN, Head Logistics Henkel. Anand Dharbe (Accenture Strategy) ,Mandar Kulkarni ( Pidilite), , Saurabh Gupta ( Lupin), Gaurav Bhatia (Cipla), and Niraj Chaudhary ( GSK), Vijay Shetty ( Alkem).

Mr.Tapaswi began intriguing the panel list about the disruptive change in the supply chain.

Answering that Mr. Gaurav Bhatia pointed out that we constantly keep hearing about such keywords as Agility, Resilience, Velocity, & Responsiveness. But during the start of pandemic, we were caught off guard.

The fundamental supply chain risk management is defined as two types of risk or challenges i.e
  • 1. Known risk like forecast, supply accuracy reliability
  • 2. Unknown risk like procurement material challenges
  • 3. Now how to face these challenges we have to take decisions according to that.

Mandar Kulkarni spoke that the variability in demand can be reduced but can’t be eliminated. There is always a challenge for the industry in every aspect but the bigger challenge is the inventory level that has to be maintained, How much stock to keep? How to cop up with losses? and many more. We should spend time on market concern, plan things accordingly and the forecasting process is very important.

Saurabh Gupta made a point that in pharmaceuticals all should be in a campaign mode. Everything should be planned in a different way than the consumer industry but what common is the efficient supply chain. Th supply risk is the same. One important thing in every organization is how to look at the entire value chain and have the responses that safeguard us from these risks. If not possible then how do we get ourself out of this problem as quickly as possible. Today is the time we have to break the entire value chain and look at every part of the value chain that how can we make more resilience.

Niraj Choudhry shared his views about the resilience. The adaptability of the supply chain to get back on our original self if any disruption happens like a pandemic. Resilience is the capability to predict unexpected events in SC.

It Consists of the three parameters
    • Do we anticipate in SC that these disruptions will happen?
    • Do we resist this disruption??
    • Whether the recovery will happen to get back to the original shelf?
Vijay Shetty enlightened us about the role of technology in the supply chain as it depends upon people and planning. We have experts and leaders to handle everything. Technology also help us in this bygiving us the information that SC managers or practitioners can use in a better way.
